Counselling with Me

You’re probably considering making some changes in your life or you are looking for help to address some personal difficulties that may be hindering your personal growth. Perhaps you’re not happy with aspects of your life, but you don’t know why. The prospects of speaking about your emotions, especially when you feel stuck, may feel daunting. But that you’re here means you’ve taken the first step and I would like to help you move forward. These are some of the areas I have helped clients work through:

Dealing with Belonging and Identity issues, Cultural issues, Isolation, Loneliness.

Managing Anxiety, Body Dysmorphia, Depression, Food-related issues, Stress

Overcoming Bereavement and loss, Low self-esteem, Low self-worth

Recovering from Abuse, Gender Dysphoria, Trauma

I work with young people (11 - 18 years), adults, older adults

I have a strong belief in the innate ability of every person to chart their own journey through life.

I’d been a librarian for many years and when I began to consider a career in counselling, this belief informed my decision to train as a person centred counsellor.

I met my first client in 2018, soon after I began training. I have since worked with a wide range of clients in community-based and specialised agencies, including Cruse Bereavement Scotland LGBT Health and Wellbeing.

As a black woman in a multicultural society, equality, openness, acceptance are some of my guiding principles. I have worked with and I continue to welcome people from all cultural, economic and social background. I warmly welcome neurodivergent people and people who refuse to label themselves.

My core practice is Person-Centred Counselling, which is based on the theory that every human has a natural instinct for growth, an ability to reach their full potential in life. I believe people come to therapy because this ability has been hampered by external factors like traumatic childhood and life events, societal harm and injustice, bereavement and many more. As your therapist, I will help you rediscover your ability to thrive, so that you are once again able to embrace your life in an authentic way.

My aim is to walk beside you, with compassion and without judgement, as you explore the issues that brought you to therapy. I will help you to explore your choices and support you as you face your fears in executing them. I will walk with you as you try to identify the changes you want in your life. I will listen and help you to challenge yourself as you come to terms with past decisions and make new ones.
